Romantic Valentine’s Day Ideas on a Budget
Okay, it’s February already. February! The Super Bowl already happened and now it’s almost Valentine’s Day. This year is going by fast. Maybe not, it could just be that I’m getting older and the days don’t feel as long as they used to. Nonetheless, it’s almost Valentine’s Day. Those of you who have a significant other: What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Here are some cost-efficient tips as to what you can do for your loved ones without breaking the bank.
Dinner
Don’t feel like you have to go to the most expensive French restaurant in town in order to please your significant other. All you have to do is know what they like. For example, my best friend and her husband are going to a crab shack this year and getting all-you-can-eat crab legs. If your wife loves Chinese food, go to a buffet or order in and make it a romantic dinner at home. If your husband loves that one Italian dish that you make, then stay home and make it. Do whatever you like, not whatever you think “should be done” for the sake of doing it.
Fun activities
Going out to the movies nowadays is stupidly expensive. Why not go to a RedBox and find a movie you want? If you can’t find what you want at RedBox, then why not consider renting a movie off of iTunes or your TV?
If you want to do something active, consider something silly like going miniature golfing or just plain fun like taking a bike ride or going on a hike? It doesn’t have to be expensive for your time together to be enjoyable.
Gifts
Some people totally forgo gifts and do dinner and hang out time. This isn’t a bad idea; sometimes time is the best gift that you can give. If you’re getting a gift, a lot of places have sales around Valentine’s Day that you can take advantage of, you just have to look. You could also do like I do for Christmas; I earn Amazon gift cards through a couple of different websites and then use them in order to do my shopping. It doesn’t have to kill your budget when you get your loved one a gift to say “I love you.”
What if I’m single?
I had friends in college who called Valentine’s Day “Singles Awareness Day.” You don’t have to be mopey on this day if you’re single! Hang out with your other single friends and do some of the things I mentioned here. If you don’t have any single friends, consider helping out your friends by watching their kids when they go out. Valentine’s Day is for showing love to everyone you care about, not necessarily your significant other!
So, even when you’re celebrating love or showing those you love that you care about them and their well-being, don’t go broke doing it! Use these tips and have a great time on this love-filled day. Until tomorrow, spend smart, save smart!
